Luke Shaw unavailable for England Southgate confirms left-back's absence Trippier likely to start again for Southgate GettyWHAT HAPPENED?
Southgate's England 26-man squad for Euro 2024 included only one natural left-back in the form of Shaw. However, the Manchester United defender has been suffering from an injury and has not been fit to start for the Three Lions. Kieran Trippier has been deputising for Shaw but has not been a 100 per cent fit and could be a doubt for their final group-stage game as well, however, Southgate has maintained that Shaw is the only unavailable player for the Slovenia clash.

Speaking to the media, Southgate said: "Luke's the only one that's not really available. He'll possibly change with the team tomorrow but he's not quite ready to be involved in the game."

England have not been in very good form throughout with Southgate's experimental tactics, and he is expected to abandon his experiment with Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, with Chelsea's Conor Gallagher set to start after two appearances from the bench against Serbia and Denmark.
Southgate has also said that England are aiming to hit 'a different level': "Our performance will have to speak for itself. I can talk as much as I like but it’s irrelevant. Ultimately, I’m going to be judged on the way the team play. I understand that and I’m comfortable with that.
"The results have pretty much put us in the next round already, but we want to hit a different level to the one we’ve hit so far. There are some fundamentals of how we’ve played over a long period of time that we need to get back to."
WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?
Southgate's side will now take on Slovenia in their last group-stage game of the Euro as they look to qualify for the knockout stages. Trippier is expected to start at left-back yet again.
