da esport bet: Roy Hodgson has signed a new one-year contract extension at Crystal Palace.
What’s the story?
da dobrowin: 72-year-old Hodgson’s deal was set to run out at the end of the current campaign. However, Steve Parish and the Eagles’ board have clearly been keen to give him a new deal.
Now, he will stay at Selhurst Park for another season. It is unclear whether that will be his last contract before he takes what will surely be an impending retirement.
Lack of ambition
On the one hand, you can fully understand why the former England managed has been given a new deal. He has once again guided the London outfit to what seems like an inevitable year of safety – they are currently nine points clear of the drop zone, having amassed 36 already themselves – and their sturdy defence has conceded just 32 goals – only five other teams in the division have less.

However, on the other hand, this does indicate a lack of ambition from Steve Parish and co. Whilst they have been fantastic defensively – the 25 goals they have scored is the second-worst in the league behind Newcastle (24) – the football has, at times, being dreadful to watch. Portions of the club’s fanbase have even said so themselves.
They have also failed to make any headway in the cup competitions either. They have made the FA Cup quarter-finals once under the former Fulham boss, but they have lost against lower-division opposition on four occasions under him.
Whilst a Europa League spot may be slightly above them right now, for example, a decent effort in the cups is not – just look at Watford, who made a final last season.
Palace did try the experiment of Frank de Boer, and maybe his poor spell, which lasted less than 100 days, has put them off trying it again. However, they will go nowhere if they continue in this manner, happy to secure mid-table to lower-table security without aiming for more. They can do better than this.
Meanwhile, Tosun’s Everton return highlights Parish’s error of judgement.
