As the chaos of Newcastle United’s transfer window continues, the Magpies have now reportedly submitted an opening offer to sign an impressive star who is represented by the same agency as Anthony Gordon.
Update on Newcastle's striker search
After initially stealing a march on Manchester United with their first offer, it looked as though Benjamin Sesko could be on his way to St James’ Park. In what has been the story of their summer, however, the RB Leipzig star has since chosen Old Trafford over the chance to join Newcastle, joining a growing list of strikers to reject Eddie Howe’s side in favour of a Premier League rival.

The list now includes Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Hugo Ekitike, Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko. Simply put, everything that could have gone wrong for Newcastle so far this summer has done. But they’re not giving up just yet. Following Sesko, reports are now suggesting that their focus has shifted towards Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.
Now, whilst Jackson has received his fair share of criticism during his time at Chelsea and Newcastle would reportedly have to overpay for his signature, he is Premier League-proven and he is still just 24 years old. If Newcastle can find a way to agree a cheaper fee than the reported £80m that Chelsea value their forward, then this is a deal that could suit all parties.
Meanwhile, as their search for a striker continues, those at St James’ Park are also reportedly attempting to solve another problem in Howe’s squad.
Newcastle submit opening Thiaw offer
According to Sky Sports’ Patrick Berger, Newcastle have now submitted an opening offer to sign Malick Thiaw from AC Milan worth €30m (£26m) as they look to add another central defender to their ranks.
Whether their chase proves successful has been the question of the transfer window for Newcastle. Reports in Italy have already claimed that Milan are set to reject that £27m bid, but it remains to be seen if the Magpies decide to push on and submit an improved offer before the window slams shut later this month.
When it comes to personal terms, those in Tyneside should have less of an issue and what could certainly help things progress is the fact that Thiaw is represented by the same agent as Gordon.
Dubbed “brilliant” by scout Jacek Kulig, the Milan defender would hand Howe the defensive depth that he has needed for at least two seasons as Newcastle head back into the Champions League in the coming season.
